Pope Francis finally arrives in Myanmar

Pope Francis has arrived in Yangon, Myanmar for a visit to encourage all the tiny Catholic communities in Myanmar and in Bangladesh. The Holy Father was greeted and welcomed by local Catholic officials at the Yangon International Airport in Myanmar Monday afternoon. Thousands of Catholics from different countries came across to Yangon to witness and see the Pope. Many were waving to his car along the road while playing their traditional music and wearing attire of their various ethnic groups.

The Holy See will meet separately Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s civilian leader and its powerful military chief and Buddhist monks during his stay in Myanmar. Rohingya Muslims say they hope that Pope Francis will call them the same as the Pope did when he prayed for them as brothers and sisters. The Rohingya Muslims were hopeful that the Pope’s trip would bring positive outcomes.
